Let’s throw in some news...
April 4th, almost 2 weeks after I launched The Bible of Doom, I can say nothing but 'Thanks a lot for all the positive reactions'...Really, I never expected this thing to go that fast - bands writing me 'Can we have a bandpage / interview on The Bible of Doom?', Doom Metal forums discussing if this will be a website for DOOM only or if subgenres like Sludge and Drone will be included as well and so on... Believe me, I am enjoying it! The Bible of Doom? So what’s with Stoner Metal?
After the start up, questions arose of course... My feeling says that this Bible must and will concentrate on Doom Metal solely - but, as with every style of Metal, it will be hard to draw borders - and I hate borders and putting bands in boxes... So, the feel that comes with the music will dominate most of the content I guess. For example, this week I discovered Black Pyramid and I loved this band at once. 'Hm, but that band is classified as Stoner'! So, I should not include them in the Bible? Wrong! This music kicks ass, and needs to be included! So, will all stoner bands be included? No! Personally I hate a band like Kyuss and I don’t like Orange Goblin that much for example, so why should I add them? And what about a band like Cathedral? The feelings I had when first listening to "Forest of Equilibrium" are still undescribable - I was 17 years old when I first saw them live on their European Tour with Paradise Lost - and I will always LOVE this album. Unfortunately I dislike almost everything Cathedral did after their debut. So, should I add them? Nope! Or should I only include the Doom Metal things they did? Maybe... So you stick to Doom. When will Black Sabbath be added?
Most likely, Black Sabbath will never be added to The Bible... 'Why not? They are the pioneers of Doom' - oh yeah, of course they were blah blah - as well as 1,000 other great bands that had slow passages in their music. Don’t get me wrong, I have a huge NWOBHM collection, many of those bands played down tempo, had a gloomy atmosphere, depressive riffings, sad vocals - still, this does not make them Doom Metal to me. So, The Bible will pick up there, where bands like Nemesis, Tyrant or Solitude started. 'Aha, why not Force, Stone Bunny, Asylum etc.?' - You f*king morons - of course such bands also need inclusion here, but have you ever heard of a Bible that was written over night? Besides, I will certainly need help writing biographies on such bands - since less is known about them (at least to me)...How can we be included? Need any help?
Bands interested to be featured here, please send biography / discography / pics etc. - information is the main thing I need... Anyone who wants to help writing the ultimate Bible of Doom is encouraged to get in touch - contributions will be fully credited with your name (or any cool nick you are known by)! This does NOT mean biographies containing only three phrases - I am looking for detailed informations! Since I cannot get around writing 'rules' and/or 'guidelines' they will most probably be online one day here... Let us just see what the future will bring... Till then, Doom on - cheers - Prost!!! |
